April Taylor is an Executive Officer at the Salvation Army of Waco, one of the Heart of Texas Homeless Coalition’s community partners. She has been a part of many community coalition boards, and, in 2018, she became an official HOTHC Board member. We are so thankful to have her on our board!
April obtained a BA in Psychology, MDIV, and Practical Ministries from the Salvation Army College for Officers as foundational equipping for her efforts to serve her community. She has worked at The Salvation Army for 33 years.
In her current role as Executive Officer, she oversees the Social Service Programs as well as other programs for Waco. Additionally, she is an ordained Pastor of The Salvation Army Church. April has a ton of experience working with HUD and community outreach in many different sized communities. She has also overseen The Salvation Army program secretary for Kentucky and Tennessee and has served as the Secretary of women’s ministries in Texas for The Salvation Army.
When asked about her favorite part about working with HOTHC, April said, “I am kept aware of the needs of the community and am able to see that our staff is tuned into the needs as well, so that our partnerships with Social Service Agencies are well connected and we maximize resources for the community.”

April values her family greatly. She and her husband have 4 children and 7 grandchildren. Two of her children and their spouses have chosen to be Salvation Army Officers and serve in two different states. One of her daughters works for the National Salvation Army Office. She also has one son who is a real estate broker in North Texas.
Some fun facts about April: Her dream vacation would be an “unplugged” trip to Tahiti. She absolutely loves red shoes and music. She is currently reading the Jonathan Cahn series which includes The Harbinger I, The Harbinger II and The Oracle. If she could only eat one food for the rest of her life it would be chicken because “there are a thousand zillion ways to cook it.”
