Homelessness can easily happen to anyone, is dehumanizing and especially affects vulnerable and at-risk populations. The largest population of people experiencing homelessness are single adults largely due to lack of available, affordable housing; however, homelessness in the U.S. affects every gender, age and race.

Approximately 567,715 people, 10 percent of the U.S. population on any given night, don’t own a home according to The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). This includes sheltered and unsheltered people experiencing homelessness.

At the Heart of Texas Homeless Coalition (HOTHC), we have a vision to end homelessness in Central Texas and beyond. We are working hard toward this goal, and have made significant progress since we began in the early 2000s. We strive to foster public education & awareness about the issue of homelessness, improve outreach to homeless persons, identify gaps in support, develop strategic plans to provide a continuum of care for the homeless, and advocate for quality treatment for the homeless individuals who are mentally ill.

Connecting more than 15 social service agencies in Central Texas and spanning 7 counties, we partner with member organizations that have services and programs that focus on, but are not limited to, housing, crisis intervention, psychosocial rehabilitation, case management, client advocacy and family education and support.

We are more than a nonprofit organization—we are a movement, providing support to homeless individuals and families. Even with the progress we’ve made and seen through our community partners, homelessness still exists and is a devastating problem in our community. We need your help, and welcome you to join the cause to prevent homelessness.

Don’t hesitate to reach out to us directly at HeartofTexasHomelessCoalition@Gmail.com to find out how you can get involved. Our coalition meets monthly, every third Friday, at 11:45 a.m., and we welcome all who are interested in becoming members.
